Rumors of a new Chromecast Ultra sporting Android TV have been swirling for weeks, and the latest leaks offer up what could be our first good look at what the HDMI dongle could look like. XDA Developers got their hands on what could be official renders of the upcoming device.
Bearing the codename “Sabrina,” this unannounced device appears to go with a more oval shape than the current Chromecast Ultra’s circular design. It also carries the understated “G” Google logo embossed on its face and a flexible, color-matched HDMI connector.
The new device is also rumored to come packed with a remote control, and additional materials obtained by XDA showcase a device with a rounded directional pad at the top and dedicated buttons below, including one for Google Assistant. The rounded design seems to mimic the input device for Google’s Daydream View VR headset, only with more buttons below the directional pad.
Lastly, the new images also show off what could be an updated UI for Android TV. Up top, you can see a bar with a search option, alongside sections called For You, Movies, TV, Live, Apps, and My Library. It’s possible this new-look user interface could arrive hand-in-hand with a rebranding that’s also been rumored for weeks.
Google’s annual I/O event likely could’ve served as a great launchpad for these types of announcements, but the event was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It remains to be seen exactly how and when any potential announcements will be shared with the public, but we’ll keep an eye out for further news and update as we learn more.
