‘Jungle Cruise’ Earned Over $30M on Disney+ Premier Access

Disney’s tentpole release of the summer Jungle Cruise opened over the July 24 weekend, pulling in more than $30M on Disney+ Premier Access. The Dwyane Johnson/Emily Blunt adventure film reportedly made $34.2M at the domestic box office and more than $90M globally.

Jungle Cruise is the latest film to hit Premier Access day and date with its theatrical release, following Black Widow (July 9) and Cruella (May 28). Black Widow made twice as much as Jungle Cruise on Premier Access, making $60 million over its opening weekend. The film brought in $80 million at the box office domestically and $78 million internationally, making it the largest domestic box office opening since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Disney found itself in hot water after the hybrid release of Black Widow as Scarlett Johansson has filed a lawsuit against Disney, alleging a breach of contract. The star claims that her contract guaranteed that the Marvel movie would be released exclusively in theaters, but Disney opted to premiere the film on Disney+ at the same time as the theatrical release.

Johansson’s lawsuit has reportedly prompted Cruella star Emma Stone to be “weighing her options” on whether or not to raise a beef with the Walt Disney Company over her salary as well. As for the Jungle Cruise cast, Dwayne Johnson reportedly has no intentions of suing Disney over the Premier Access release, but there’s no real word on where Emily Blunt’s head is at. She and husband John Krasinski both apparently had feelings about Paramount cutting the theatrical window for their joint movie A Quiet Place Part II, but the pair haven’t made any definite moves against it.

Jungle Cruise is available on Disney+ Premier Access for $29.99. The film will be available with a regular DIsney+ subscription later this fall.
