Fox is bringing back the iconic reality TV series Fear Factor with a bold new twist, and none other than Jackass legend Johnny Knoxville is set to host Fear Factor: The Next Chapter, premiering during the 2025-26 broadcast season. Knoxville will take the reins from previous hosts Joe Rogan, who led the original NBC run from 2001-06 and its 2011-12 revival, and Ludacris, who fronted MTV’s 2017-18 iteration. The announcement, made during Fox’s May upfronts, has sparked excitement among fans of the boundary-pushing franchise known for its stomach-churning stunts and adrenaline-pumping challenges.

The revamped series, produced by Endemol Shine North America, promises to retain the franchise’s hallmark gross-out challenges—think eating bizarre concoctions or facing off against creepy crawlies—while introducing a fresh gameplay element. Unlike the original’s stand-alone episodes featuring new contestants each week, The Next Chapter will see players living together throughout the season, competing in an ongoing competition for a grand prize. This social strategy component aims to elevate the series into a new era of reality TV, blending fear with interpersonal drama.

“When you reimagine a series as legendary as Fear Factor, you need a host who is the epitome of daring charisma and spectacle, and that’s Johnny Knoxville personified,” said Sharon Levy, CEO of Endemol Shine North America. “We’ll be pushing fear and social strategy to places that will redefine reality competition, which makes Johnny the perfect host for what will be a wild, unforgettable ride. We’re beyond excited to see him unleash all the fear (and the fun) on our contestants and our viewers.”

Knoxville, no stranger to high-risk entertainment, has kept busy with recent projects, including a guest role on The Studio, a starring part in the feature film The Luckiest Man in America, and a role in Hulu’s Reboot. He also served as a host and judge on ABC’s 2023 unscripted series The Prank Panel. Up next, he’ll appear in the coming-of-age film The Marshmallow Experiment. His extensive experience in unscripted television and his fearless persona make him a natural choice to guide contestants through Fear Factor’s grueling challenges.

The reboot comes amid a wave of changes at Fox, with the network recently renewing Lego Masters for a sixth season with new host Nick Cannon, while canceling dramas Alert: Missing Persons Unit and The Cleaning Lady. Fear Factor: The Next Chapter promises to recapture the raw, visceral thrill that made the original a cultural phenomenon while introducing modern twists to keep viewers on edge.

With Knoxville at the helm, Fear Factor: The Next Chapter is poised to deliver a wild, unforgettable ride when it debuts next season. Fans can expect a mix of heart-pounding stunts, grotesque challenges, and strategic gameplay, all infused with Knoxville’s signature irreverent humor.
