While Krasinski was originally against the idea of selling the series, according to sources for The Hollywood Reporter, he and the SGN team came around to the idea when a flood of offers came in and led to a bidding war.
Krasinski will no longer be the host of the show when it airs on CBS All Access; however, sources say he will have an on-air presence along with serving as executive producer.
“Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring Some Good News to so many more people!” Krasinski said in a statement. “From the first episode, our goal was to create a news show dedicated entirely to good news. Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS.”
The YouTube series came to an end over the weekend when, after eight episodes, Krasinski said Some Good News would be taking a break. Throughout the eight episodes, viewers were able to take a break from the heavy news cycle focused on the pandemic, instead hearing positive news stories about good things happening around the world. One episode saw a reunion from the cast of Hamilton. Another brought the cast of The Office back together. AT&T got involved, offering a giving for first responders. And both kids and adults were featured each week, in videos showcasing their good deeds and thoughtfulness at a time when we could all use an extra dose of good news.
The Some Good News YouTube channel has built a following of 2.56 million subscribers since launching in March, with each video getting as many as 17 million views.
