Jerry Seinfeld Teases a Reunion That Would Address His Show’s Controversial Finale

Seinfeld cast

Jerry Seinfeld gave the briefest of teases that he and the rest of the Seinfeld cast may return for a reunion that may end the series on a higher note than its original poorly received series finale.

During a stand-up set in Boston Saturday night, the comedian said he “has a little secret” about the show’s ending but didn’t follow up that remark with anything more than a tease about a possible reunion.

“Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending,” said Seinfeld in a video posted to X. “Just what you are thinking about, Larry [David] and I have also been thinking about. So, you’ll see.”

What exactly we’ll see has yet to be revealed, but a possible reunion mashup on Curb Your Enthusiasm is a possibility. But the 12th season has already been filmed, without leaks of the original cast of Seinfeld showing up for any scenes.

The group appearing in the next season, however, wouldn’t be unprecedented. Larry David was co-creator and head writer of Seinfeld for seven seasons, so a long-term successful working relationship is already established. Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards temporarily reprised their roles in the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Seinfeld concluded its ninth season with an anticlimactic two-part finale that fans and the creator alike wished had gone differently. More than 76 million people watched it live, making it one of the most-watched broadcasts in television history. Even so, Seinfeld has made mention of regret over the creative direction the last episode went in. In 2018, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he hinted another round of Seinfeld was “possible.”

In 2021, Netflix paid $500 million for the streaming rights to Seinfeld, reviving audiences’ nostalgia for the series. The series ranked 14th out of 15 for the most-streamed Netflix series that year as the series saw a revival in popularity.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been a strong running show semi-based on Larry David’s life after leaving Seinfeld. The cast has made several appearances as themselves, but bringing them back one more time for the conclusive season could be a finale both creators are proud to stand behind.
