With Amazon making its acquisition of MGM official with an announcement earlier today, fans of the James Bond franchise wondered if future films would go straight to Amazon Prime Video. The producers of the films say going straight to streaming isn’t the plan for 007.
“We are committed to continuing to make James Bond films for the worldwide theatrical audience,” Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson said in a statement to Variety. No Time to Die is set to hit theaters on October 8. Broccoli and Wilson’s company Eon Productions co-owns rights to the Bond franchise, giving them rights to produce future projects.
While the film won’t skip the theatrical window altogether, there’s no word yet on what the time frame between the theatrical release and the streaming debut of No Time to Die will be.
Before the acquisition was officially announced, sources shared that Amazon’s acquisition of MGM would not affect the already scheduled theatrical releases for the rest of the year, with one source saying “it would only be positive, that deals won’t be disrupted” in an article from Deadline.
