Have you recently woken up and found your cable TV or internet has stopped working? It may not be anything your cable company did. Your cable lines may have been stolen.

Reports of cable TV copper lines being stolen has skyrocketed with West Virginia being one of the states hardest hit.

According to Frontier, they have seen a 70% jump in the number of times cables where stolen cutting off service to customers.

What is happening here is people are stealing the old copper lines that cable TV and internet used. The thieves are selling the copper since the price of copper is up.

Frontier learned of cables being stolen and that after customers replaced the cables they were stolen again the next day.

Replacing the copper lines with fiber will help solve this problem, but it takes time and more than running new lines. Hardware that powers these lines will also need to be upgraded, which also takes time.

This issue is not exclusive to West Virginia. It is happening across the United States. Frontier is offering a reward to help track down the people behind the thefts.

So, the next time your internet or TV goes out, remember it could be something out of your provider’s control.
