Torrent Freak reported that ACE, which represents names like Amazon and Netflix, was behind the lawsuit against SETTV last year. The original complaint claimed that “Defendants market and sell subscriptions to ‘Setvnow,’ a software application that Defendants urge their customers to use as a tool for the mass infringement of Plaintiffs’ copyrighted motion pictures and television shows.”
The IPTV service shut down after the complaint was filed. A few months ago, the court granted a default judgement. Then, the copyright holders who had been affected requested a second default judgement against SETTV owner Jason Labossiere, and employee Nelson Johnson continued. The two were found guilty of willful copyright infringement.
Labossiere and Johnson will now need to pay $7,650,000 in damages and a permanent injunction is in place to prevent any future violations of copyright laws.
