IPTV Came Under Fire in 2019 & In 2020 It Maybe All Out War

2019 saw IPTV services became the target of Hollywood and even criminal prosecutions around the world. These services often advertise crazy low prices with hundreds of TV channels. The providers have claimed to be operating in a legal grey area but Hollywood seems to not be interested in this argument. We saw lawsuits and even criminal charges against some of these IPTV services.

Now as 2020 is about to launch we are hearing about a growing effort to shut down IPTV services not just here in the United States but around the world.

In the past content, companies have gone after the end seller of these services. Now they have started to target the companies that make the services possible. This includes the website hosting companies, file hosting companies, and even the companies that process the payments for these IPTV services.

Now it seems that Hollywood and the federal government plans to continue to put pressure on IPTV services.

Over the last year, content owners have been racking up a number of big victories against IPTV providers. In 2020 these companies reportedly plan to use these victories in 2020 to go after even more IPTV services in the United States and around the world.

Also, look for continued legal pressure to be put on payment processing companies and hosting companies that operate the backend of these services. In 2019 content owners had success targeting the backend management of IPTV services. Now in 2020 look for them to continue this trend.

So why are content owners so set on shutting down IPTV services? In short, they generate millions that ends up in the pockets of the service owners not the content companies.

Set TV NOW was the first major IPTV provider shut down. According to a court ruling, Set TV was offering illegal access to live TV streams for $20 a month. In the ruling, the Judge said that Set TV had 180,398 subscribers and that they needed to pay $90+ million in damages to DISH. So how much did Set TV make? At $20 a subscriber that works out to over $3.6 million every month, which equals over $43 million every year.

With millions of dollars on the line you can understand why they are starting to draw the attention of Hollywood and governments around the world. Unlike torrenting, which may make the host of the service some money, IPTV services are generating millions in profit every single month.

Many had wondered for how long IPTV services would be tolerated. Now we know the answer as raids and lawsuits have started to become more common in the world of IPTV.
