If You Have These Older Roku Players It is Time to Upgrade

Roku Ultra with PackagingWith new Roku models introduced earlier this year and great deals on streaming devices continuing to pop up this holiday season, many cord cutters are wondering: is it time to upgrade?

Here are three reasons you might want to upgrade.

If You’re Using an Older Model That Didn’t Get the 9.2 Update

The Roku 9.2 update began to roll out in October. The update brought features including searchable channels, voice controls, and the ability to control multiple devices with Alexa and Google Assistant.

In the software release notes for the update, Roku lists the following supported Roku devices receiving Roku OS 9.2.

If You Want to Watch in 4K

While streaming services are continually adding more content in 4K, not all Roku devices support 4K viewing. The Roku Express and Roku Express+ do not support 4K, along with older devices including the Roku Streaming Stick. If you want to enjoy 4K viewing and you’re using an outdated model, you’ll want to upgrade.

If You’re Subscribing to New Streaming Services

While most streaming services work with a wide variety of streaming devices, most will specify that only newer models will be supported. For example, Disney+ lists the following Roku devices as being support by the streaming service.

The good news is Roku has a sale right now on new Roku players happening over on Amazon.
