I Have Been Using a Roku for Over 10 Years & Here Are My Top 5 Pro Tips for Roku Player & Roku TV Owners

Roku dominates the U.S. streaming media player market, but many users are only scratching the surface of its capabilities. As a longtime Roku enthusiast, I’m excited to share five tips and tricks to elevate your streaming experience.

1. Take Control with Parental Controls

Keep your kids safe and manage their viewing habits with Roku’s Parental Controls. You can require a PIN to install new channels and restrict content based on age ratings. To set it up, go to Settings > Parental Controls.

2. Say Goodbye to Tedious Typing

Tired of using the clunky onscreen keyboard? The Roku mobile app for iOS, Android, and Fire OS lets you use your phone’s keyboard for effortless logins. Just open the app, connect to your Roku device, and tap the keyboard icon when prompted.

3. Mirror Your Phone Screen with Ease

Share photos, videos, or your entire phone screen on the big screen with Screen Mirroring. Enable it in Settings > Screen Mirroring, then use your phone’s Cast feature to connect.

If you have an Apple iOS device, you can cast from your iPhone using Airplay.

4. Travel with Your Roku

Take your entertainment on the go! Roku supports public Wi-Fi networks commonly found in hotels and dorms. Connect to the network, then select “I am at a hotel or college dorm” in the network settings.

5. Simplify with Personalized Names

If you have multiple Roku devices, easily identify them by renaming them in your Roku account online. No more confusion when casting or managing devices!

Bonus Tip: Automatic Captions When Muted

Never miss a word, even when the volume is down. Enable “Mute Captions” on your Roku TV to automatically display captions when muted.
