Hulu with Live TV vs DIRECTV NOW: Which is the Better Deal? We Take a Look (Updated July 2019)

Today, we’re taking a look at Hulu with Live TV and the DIRECTV NOW Plus Plan.

Plans and Pricing

Hulu with Live TV costs $44.99 per month. While Hulu also has the basic option and the ad-free option for subscriptions, this is the only one that will give you live channels.

DIRECTV NOW advertises two main packages. First is the Plus plan for $50 per month which is the option we’ll be discussing in this post. There’s also a Max plan with more channels for $70, along with five other plans that include add-on channels.

Channel and Price Comparison

When comparing streaming services, one way to look at the value of the service you’re paying for is to check the price per channel.

With Hulu with Live TV, you’ll pay $44.99 for 67 channels, making it $0.67 per channel

With DIRECTV NOW’s Plus package, you’ll pay $50 for 54 channels, making it $0.93 per channel.

Channels

When you subscribe to Hulu with Live TV, you’ll get the following channels:

DIRECTV NOW Plus

DIRECTV NOW Plus will cost you $50/month for 47 channels. (Previously, plans started at $40/month for 65+ channels.)

Simultaneous Viewing

You can watch on two devices simultaneously with Hulu with Live. There’s also an Unlimited Screens add-on that will let you watch on as many devices that are connected to your home network as you want. With the add-on, you can also watch on 3 mobile devices simultaneously.

With a DIRECTV NOW subscription, you can stream on two screens at once. You also have the option to add a third simultaneous stream for an additional $5 per month.

Cloud DVR

Every Hulu with Live TV subscription comes with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage to record and watch content. You can also upgrade to the Enhanced Cloud DVR package to increase your storage to 200 hours.

With DIRECTV NOW, you’ll get 20 hours of DVR storage. Content is saved on your DVR for up to 30 days after recording.
