Hulu Sets Records With New Sundance RomCom ‘Palm Springs’

Hulu had its best premiere weekend ever with Palm Springs, its new romantic comedy snagged from a Sundance Film Festival deal. The movie has pulled in more views in the first three days than any other film on the streaming service during the same amount of time.

This isn’t the first record Palm Springs has shattered. Hulu and Neon acquired the film for a record-setting $17.5 million (and 69 cents, but who’s counting) at Sundance, making it the biggest deal in the festival’s history beating out Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation in 2016 by that 69 cents.

A spokesperson from Hulu also confirmed to IndieWire that Palm Springs has created the highest buzz on social media than any other of the streamer’s films so far, and was the most discussed Hulu original film on Twitter over its first three days, IndieWire reports.

The film is a trippy romantic-comedy starring Cristin Millioti Andy Samberg, who get trapped in the classic time-warp setting of waking up to the same day on repeat. But this time, there’s a little more edge, some twisty elements, and a fresh take on the Groundhog’s Day storyline. Be careful reading reviews online though if you don’t want the ending spoiled!

If you haven’t already watched it, this trailer is safe and will give you a taste of what it’s about:
