Hulu Sees Huge Growth in American Living Rooms

One streaming media trend is the idea that more Americans are watching TV on phones and tablets not on living room TVs. According to Jim Keller that is a trend that Hulu is not seeing.

Keller said that 75% of Hulu viewing now comes from the big living room TV screens—up from around 40% a couple of years ago.

Hulu went on to confirm to Cord Cutters News that in 2014 only 54% of Hulu views happened in the living room. Today it is 75%, meaning Hulu saw a 40% increase in living room viewing since 2014. (Living room viewing means viewing on a large TV screen typically used in living rooms.)

That is a huge change and points straight at the growing penetration of streaming players and smart TVs in American households.

This trend, or lack thereof, may raise questions about services such as YouTube TV that are pushing a mobile-first strategy. With YouTube TV you will need a mobile device or laptop to cast the YouTube TV feed to a Chromecast-compatible device.
