Hulu Plans to Spend $2.5 Billion on New Content

It looks like Hulu is doubling down on content with plans to spend $2.5 billion on new content in 2018.

That might sound like a lot of money, yet it’s still significantly less than Hulu’s streaming competitors like Amazon and Netflix are spending. Netflix said in its earnings report last fall that it planned to invest $6 billion in new content during 2017.

Hulu has around 12 million subscribers, so it is likely spending more money per subscriber than other services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Netflix currently has more than 100 million paying subscribers, while Amazon Prime subscription numbers are around 80 million.

Hulu is still riding high from their recent hit The Handmaids Tail and other recent original successes. Hulu has also struck several big content deals to get access to classic Fox shows like M*A*S*H* and deals with ABC for their TGIF lineup to name a few. Hulu has already renewed the Handmaid’s Tale for a second season, and has other series like a Locke & Key adaptation and a J.J. Abrams / Steven Spielberg project in the works

Hulu has not stopped there they have been growing their live TV service and now have over 240 live locals streaming on Hulu.

So if you have not tried Hulu recently maybe it is time to give them a second look.
