Hulu is Making Some Staffing Changes

A few weeks ago Hulu announced a massive reorganization of its business. Today they announced even more changes as they shut down their Marin California offices and move half team up to Seattle.

The move seems to be about streamlining the development of Hulu’s TV apps as previously the work was split between Marin California and Seattle. Now the team that handles Hulu’s living room devices will all be in the same location with other groups in Santa Monica and Beijing. This all comes as Hulu gets a new Chief Technology Officer who is overseeing the development of Hulu’s apps with Dan Phillips from TiVo taking over at Hulu.

According to Hulu 78% of viewing takes place in the living room. With a new head in charge of Hulu’s apps, it is possible changes are in the works as he streamlines the teams working on the services.

Hulu was careful not to call these layoffs but rather a consolidation of the two teams into one. Instead of having the apps you see being designed by two different teams now there is just one team overseeing the apps.
