Hulu is Having a Huge January Full of Announcements

Not that long ago Hulu was for sale and many expected it to be shut down. Now it is the third most popular subscription streaming service in the United States.

Over the last few months Hulu added a ton of new networks including a huge deal with Epix that brought many big name movies over from Netflix. Hulu started to offer commercial-free options and even changed how commercials work on its limited commercials plan.

Now Hulu is having a huge January. First Hulu announced that CBS and Hulu have struck a deal to bring CBS content to Hulu’s new live TV streaming service. This is huge news because CBS is the only major broadcast network that does not own part of Hulu.

This means Hulu will have access to ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS content on its live TV streaming service. Time Warner has also agreed to bring its content including CNN, HBO, TBS, and other great channels to Hulu Live.

Not only did we get news about Hulu Live we also got our first look at Hulu Live. It seems Hulu is dedicated to making Hulu Live a sports- and on-demand-oriented service. Time will tell if that move pays off against what is already on the market.

Lastly not only did we get a look at Hulu Live, but two rounds of beta invites for Hulu Live have been sent out. About 100 to 150 beta testers are using the new service. Hopefully that means a public launch is coming sooner than later.

Put this all together and you have a dramatic change from a service that just a few years ago many expected to shut down.
