Hulu Hires the Brains Behind Xbox One’s User Experience

Hulu_logoMicrosoft’s Xbox One user experience has long been viewed as a leader in the industry, and Hulu just hired the brains behind it.

Hulu hired Richard Irving as vice president of product management. He comes from Microsoft where his responsibilities included the user experience for platform including Xbox apps on Windows 10, iOS, Android, and Microsoft Live.

Irving spent 18 years at Microsoft working on projects such as the Kinect for the Xbox 360 and building in live TV support into the Xbox One. His work at Microsoft led to six patents covering a range of topics from speech recognition to e-commerce.

This is a huge hire for Hulu, who is struggling to make their service stand out. A fresh new look at the user experience would go a long way to helping make Hulu stand out from other services.

Increasingly there is a large number of services that offer the ability to stream content. In this increasingly crowded market subscriber user experience is more important than ever.

Irving started working at Hulu on July 18 as vice president of product management.
