Depending on what device you’re using, the company offers the current Hulu app, with access to premium add-ons and live TV, or what’s known as the Classic app that only gets you access to streaming content. While details differ from platform to platform, the Classic app is typically available on older devices, while more modern options get access to the current Hulu app.
In this case, users of these older Roku devices might run into messages like “Your user sessions has expired,” or “Hulu Plus is no longer supported on this device,” once June 24th comes around. When the company drops app support, users often lose the ability to sign in, or the app may simply disappear.
Despite losing support for older models, several more recent Roku devices will still support the current, more fully featured Hulu app, including:
- Roku Ultra
- Roku Premiere and Premiere+
- Roku Express and Express+
- Roku 3 and 4
- Roku 2 (model 4210)
- Roku Streaming Stick (model 3500 or later)
- Roku TV
- 4k Roku TV
Hulu says you’ll need to make sure your firmware is updated to at least version 8.1 to access the current app.
