Hulu Announces That Most Live TV Customers Who Canceled Because of The Recent Price Hike Went to On-Demand

Today Disney opened up about their plans for Hulu now that Disney owns the majority of Hulu. Now that Disney has the ability to do pretty much whatever they want and now we got our first update about Hulu since the Fox and Disney merger.

Here is what we learned during Disney’s Hulu presentation:

Hulu’s CEO announced that a “Large percentage” of customers who canceled Hulu with live TV just downgraded to the lower-priced $5.99/mo on-demand option. So it is now clear that price hikes on streaming services do result in subscribers moving to cheaper options.

Disney also said that they expect streaming to be making $50 billion a year from ads by 2022. This comes as Hulu recently cut the price of their ad-supported service to $5.99. Disney once again announced that Hulu now has 25 million subscribers. (2 million of that 25 million subscribers are customers currently on trials.) Hulu also saw a 20% jump in average hours per subscriber.

Right now Hulu has 85,000 episodes of television on its on-demand services not counting movies that can also be streamed on Hulu.
