Hulu Adds Support for 4K and Dolby 5.1 to Roku Players & Roku TVs

Hulu has added Roku devices to their list of 4K and Dolby 5.1 supported content and devices, further expanding the ways subscribers can enjoy a surround sound experience when watching TV and movies from Hulu’s on-demand library or live TV lineup.

Previously, Roku was not included in Hulu’s list of supported devices. A Cord Cutters News reader noticed the new addition to the list which also includes Android TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, LG TV. 5.1. Surround Sound support began to roll out in May last year with the Xbox One being the first device to get the update. Since then, Hulu has added support to other devices and has continually commented that its “collection of 5.1 supported content and devices continues to grow” when subscribers ask about the feature on message boards.

To enable surround sound on these devices, you’ll need to select a 5.1 compatible option from the audio output settings and have a sound system that supports 5.1 audio. Visit the help page from Roku for more information about setting up surround sound on your Roku device.

There is no additional fee for 4K content and you’ll automatically get the 4K experience when watching Hulu with your 4K compatible Roku device.
