Once a regular feature in iOS, picture in picture was removed when the new look and feel rolled out. Now, according to a post by the official Hulu Reddit account and confirmed by Cord Cutters News, picture in picture is back on iOS in the Hulu app.
You will need the iOS v5.9 update to access the new notifications and picture in picture on iPad and iPhones.
Here are the release notes for the October 20, 2017, iOS update:
RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 20TH
- New: Picture-in-picture is back! Supported iPad users can keep browsing Hulu, or even leave our app, and continue watching your shows on this small but mighty new screen.
- New: Good things are coming. And in preparation for that, you will see an opt-in dialog to accept Hulu notifications. You won’t be receiving them yet, but when the time comes, you’ll be as excited as we are about them.
- Improvement: We brought back the feature to pause and resume playback with Apple supported headphones and Bluetooth accessories. We are sorry we took it off for a bit!
Hulu also recently combined their Hulu Live TV app and Hulu On-Demand app on iOS into one app. No longer will you need to use two separate apps to access your Hulu content.
