Hulu Acquires 80s Sitcom Designing Women

Hulu has acquired the rights to Designing Women. All 163 episodes from the show’s 7 seasons will be available to stream.

Designing Women ran from 1986 to 1993 and focused on a group of four women and one man, working together in an Atlanta interior design firm. The series starred Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, Jean Smart, and Delta Burke and covered a wide range of issues in and out of the workplace. While the series premiered 33 years ago, the storylines are still resonating with fans today.

“We saw these four fabulous women balancing work and home lives, running businesses, handling setbacks and dating. But the show never shied away from tough topics like domestic abuse, homophobia, racism and women’s rights and its themes and storylines continue to have relevance today,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s head of originals.

The series is set to begin streaming on Hulu on August 26th, which also happens to be Women’s Equality Day.
