How to Watch ‘Turning Red’ on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV & More on March 11

Disney’s Pixar is set to make history with their latest film Turning Red. The 25th film by the animation studio is the first to be solely directed by a woman with  Domee Shi making her feature directorial debut. Shi and Julia Cho are the film’s screenwriters, which is the first Pixar film to take place in Canada, and the first to feature an Asian lead character since 2009’s Up.

The film follows Meilin “Mei” Lee (Rosalie Chiang), a 13-year old Chinese-Canadian girl who turns into a giant red panda whenever she experiences strong emotions. Her metamorphosis is caused by her ancestors’ connection with red pandas and she turns back to herself once she calms down.  Shi’s film was inspired by her own experiences in Toronto.

The film has received universal acclaim on Metacritic, and notable actors Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Hyein Park, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, and James Hong lent their voice to the film.
