Tiger Woods returns to the PGA Tour this week but he will not be playing in the 2021 Hero World Challenge. The golf great will be hosting the four-day tournament at the Albany Golf Course in New Providence, Bahamas.
Established in 2000, Woods has hosted the event each year, this will be his first public appearance since his car accident earlier this year. In an interview with Golf Digest, Woods said his full-time playing career is over, but he’ll pick and choose a few events to play after he nearly lost his leg in the accident back in February.
The Hero World Challenge is a benefit for The Tiger Woods Foundation, but it does not FedEx Cup points or official money as it is an unofficial event, even though it is on the PGA Tour schedule. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the 2020 edition of the tournament was canceled, but 2019 winner Henrik Stenson will return for this year’s event. He will be joined by 20 of the best golfers in the world including Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas. The purse will be $3.5 million.
