Coming 2 America Storyline
The film is a sequel to the 1988 comedy starring Eddie Murphy as Crown Prince Akeem who travels to Queens, New York in search of an independent woman to make his wife. The sequel takes place 30 years later as Prince Akeem, set to become king, discovers that he has a long lost son in Queens. The Prince returns to America to groom his son to become the next prince.
What People are Saying
The film was released on Prime Video hours before viewers expected to see the title show up, so reviews are already being shared by both critics and Prime subscribers. Here’s what people are saying.
NPR gave a critical review, saying “what is there to say about Coming 2 America, a rehash with a convoluted, awkwardly rendered plot and some truly backwards perspectives?” But also added, “There are some admittedly chuckle-worthy moments sprinkled throughout, and any opportunity to see Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate perform is sure to be a treat.”
USA Today called it a “disappointing rehash” of the 1988 original.
Some fans of Coming to America had more positive things to say, tweeting about the nostalgia they felt with the sequel and sharing love for all of the stars who returned, along with the new faces who made an appearance.
