Update: There is now a USB cable that will allow you to power most Roku boxes though your USB port on your TV. This will allow the sleep timer on your TV to turn off your Roku. You can learn more about this USB cable by clicking HERE.

If you have ever wanted a sleep timer on your Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV now you can, with the help of a power strip you can finally have a sleep timer to stop your stream.

One of the biggest wish list items for the Roku is a sleep timer to stop your stream if you leave it running. So you don’t blow through your data cap as you sleep. Here is how to link your Roku to your TV’s sleep timer.

1) You will need a power strip with a control port like the Smart Strip. These power strips have a control plug on them and when that control plug stops drawing power it turns off other plugs on the power strip.

2) Plug your TV into your smart control plug marked in Blue and plug your Roku into one of the control plugs marked in Green.

3) Now all you have to do is set the sleep timer on your TV and the power strip will turn off your Roku, Apple TV, and/or Fire TV when the sleep timer turns off your TV.

It really is just that simple to have a sleep timer for your Roku. If you have any questions please lave them in the comments.
