How to Fix YouTube TV Having The Wrong Local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC Stations

YouTube is a great way to stream local affiliates like ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC if you can’t get them from an antenna. Sometimes, though YouTube TV will think you are in a different location than you really are and this results in you getting a different set of local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC affiliates.

The good news is YouTube TV makes it very easy to confirm your location so you can get the locals you want. (This is also helpful if you just moved and YouTube TV is still giving you the old locals.

All you need to do is set your location so you can tell YouTube TV where you are. This should fix most issues with getting the wrong locals. Here is how to fix that error:

On a smart TV

If you’re watching with our TV app, you can update your current playback area (for example, if you’re traveling).

  1. Open the YouTube TV app on your TV.
  2. Select your profile photo   Location.
  3. Select Update next to “Current playback area.”
  4. On your mobile device, go to tv.youtube.com/verify. Allow the website to access your device’s location to update your current playback area.

On a mobile device

  1. Open YouTube TV.
  2. Select your profile photo   Location.
  3. Select Update next to “Current playback area.”

If we can’t correctly identify your location, you’ll be asked to go to tv.youtube.com/verify. Allow the website to access your device’s location (if you haven’t already) to verify the current playback area.

Troubleshoot location permissions

Still having trouble? Location permissions might be turned off on your device. You can check by following these steps.

  1. Open your device’s settings .
  2. Tap Apps and Notifications.
  3. Scroll to find YouTube TV in the apps list.
  4. Tap Permissions  Location to view your current settings.
  5. To switch to a different setting, tap to select one of the other options listed.
