While premium channels will come at a price, there are ways to cut the cord and still get plenty of content for free. Here’s how.
The first way to get content for free is by using an antenna. An antenna will give you access to live, local over the air channels, completely for free. Be sure to do some research to find the best option for your location and rescan for channels regularly to ensure that you’re getting as many channels as possible.

While there are many paid subscription services, there are also many free, ad-supported streaming services. If you don’t mind watching a few ads throughout your TV show or movie, these free services have extensive on-demand libraries and many have live channels as well.
These are just a few of our favorite free streaming services.
- Pluto TV has been adding channels consistently since being bought by Viacom. Recently, the free service added nine more channels including Nick Movies, Court TV, and the Today Show.
- Crackle has a library of TV shows and movies, many from former parent company Sony. Crackle is also focusing on creating original content which can only be watched on their platform.
- Tubi has a massive library of shows and movies, all for free. If you’re looking for exclusive or hard to find content, Tubi is bringing it to viewers with a new Not on Netflix website.
- The Roku Channel is one of the newer free apps, but one worth checking out. The Roku Channel is adding new channels consistently and makes it easy to add premium channels for a monthly fee if you’re in the mood to splurge for a favorite show.
- Xumo offers a huge collection of movies and TV shows online without needing to pay.
- IMDb TV is Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming available on Amazon devices and through the Amazon Prime Video app on devices like Roku streaming players.
