Cord cutting is so amazing that it can be hard to go back to cable in hotels when you travel. It’s even more painful when you do not have Internet access to all your great streaming services. Yet there is hope, because with a little work you can be a cord cutter on the road!
Hotels
Hotels have become increasingly easier as more now offer fast Internet to stream all the content you want. Many even offer Internet tiers from basic web surfing to Internet for cord cutters.
Now while the speed may be there, you still have to get access to the Internet, which may require you to launch a web browser and log in. Not an issue if you want to use a laptop, but what if you want to use a streaming device? Well, good news: the Fire TV and Fire Stick now offer the ability to log into hotel and college networks. Cutting the Cord Without Internet
Are you on the road and want to access all your favorite shows and movies without taking boxes of DVDs? The good news is services like Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play allow you to download your content. Yet what do you do if you want something new and you don’t have Internet access? Most cellular networks have strict data caps as low as 2GB, which makes them a poor option for cord cutters.
My recommendation is to download a free app to your phone called Wi-Fi Free that allows you to find free open Wi-Fi wherever you are located. This app uses GPS to find nearby open Wi-Fi and even gives you passwords to locked Wi-Fi networks. When I’m on the road, I often find a restaurant with a highly rated Wi-Fi network and before I go in I start downloading content.
