How Cable Companies Still Find Ways to Raise Your Price Even When You Have a Price Lock

Worried couple reading a letter sitting on a couch in the living room at homeYou likely have seen a pay-TV company promise a price for 12 or 24 months if you agree to a contract. Yet after you sign the contract your monthly bill increases.

The truth is it all comes down to the wording on the contract. Often when you look at the contract it promises to keep the TV package price the same, but the fees and device rentals are still subject to price hikes.

This is how Comcast is raising the prices on all their TV subscribers in January 2019. While the core TV package price will stay the same, fees on the package like the Regional Sports fee and the Broadcast TV fee are both going up. Even other fees like the Modem rental fee will be increasing.

Hidden fees and taxes have been an issue with cable TV for years. Now though it is even more important because many pay-TV companies promise a price lock. Just remember that they often do not promise not to increase the fees and device rentals that come with that TV package.

So keep in mind the next time you think you have a price lock that there are still ways that price can go up.
