House of Cards Season 4 Release Date Announced

Netflix just announced the new season of House of Cards in a big way. During the December 2015 Republican Debate, Netflix purchased a 30-second ad that was a promotional video for Frank Underwood’s reelection run. Season 4 is planned to come out March 4th.

House of Cards was released February 1, 2013, and quickly became Netflix’s most successful original series. It also quickly gave credibility to Netflix as a major player in Hollywood when it received 9 Primetime Emmy-Award nominations for its first season.

Details are still limited about Season 4 but the past 3 seasons have featured 13 episodes, so Season 4 is expected to also have 13 episodes. It is not currently known if Season 4 will be the last season of House of Cards. The success of the season may determine if it is renewed for Season 5.

Unlike in 2013 when Netflix was heavily counting on House of Cards to be a big hit in order to launch Netflix Originals, Netflix now does not need House of Cards like it used to. With other big shows like the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Orange Is the New Black Netflix can stand on its own now. With that said, House of Cards is still its biggest success, ranking up there with shows like Dexter and American Horror Story in popularity.
