Here is Why Traditional Smart TVs Are a Bad Idea

m401i-a3-1Do you own a Vizio smart TV from the 2010 or 2011 model years? We have bad news for you…

Amazon announced today that the Amazon Video app for Vizio TVs made in 2010 or 2011 will no longer work after August 15, 2016. This is a problem with many traditional smart TVs because after they are sold Vizio and other TV makers have no reason to keep updating them, and they quickly fall out of date.

This is why many TV manufacturers have started to move over to OS, such as the Roku TV, which allows them to move the cost of the OS over to companies such as Roku. This ends up being a win-win-win because Roku gets more installs, TV manufacturers avoid OS costs, and consumers don’t end up with a brick after a few years.

Amazon is offering a discount on Fire TVs to Vizio owners who will be effected. You will be receiving a $15 discount in your email for a Fire TV Stick. (It should already be there, so check the email you use for Amazon.)

This is not the first time a smart TV has lost apps and will not be the last. We always recommend you don’t buy a TV for the apps inside of it. The good news is the Fire TV is $49.99, and the new Roku Stick is on sale for $39 today!
