Here Is Everything We Know About the Fire TV Cube

Last year we learned that Amazon was working on a new Fire TV that also has an Echo built into it called the Fire TV Cube. This week Amazon officially confirmed the Fire TV Cube exists with a mention on their site as “coming soon.”

So what is the Fire TV cube and what can we expect from it?

What Is the Fire TV Cube?

The Fire TV Cube will be at its core a Fire TV box but with the addition of an Echo built into it. It looks like Amazon wants to make the Fire TV not only the way you watch content on your TV but also control your home, play music, and be your personal assistant. There is even an IR emitter that will likely work similarly to a Harmony Hub allowing the Fire TV to control other devices.

What will the Fire TV Cube cost?

The device will be a 4K streaming player and likely will be the true successor to the Fire TV second gen box. AFTVnews is reporting that the Fire TV cube will cost over $100.

Will the Fire TV Cube have Ethernet?

Recently Engadget posted an update to their Fire TV Cube story including what they report to be a scan from the Fire TV Cube manual. This scan shows that the Fire TV will not have an Ethernet port. Instead, the cube replaces it with a USB-C adapter. You will be able to buy an Ethernet adapter to plug into the USB-C plug. (Likely for an extra fee.)

What is the Fire TV Cube release date?

We don’t know. The new Fire TV cube could come out tomorrow or next fall. For now we will have to wait and see.
