So, here are the cable TV networks most likely to shut down in 2020.
#1 Cinemax
It was recently announced that Cinemax would stop producing new content. “I think you can expect there will not be any more Cinemax originals being produced going forward,” HBO Max boss Kevin Reilly said during the Television Critics Association press tour. To make it even more clear Michael Quigley, the vice president of content acquisitions for HBO Max, said that Cinemax original content will not be on HBO Max. “We’re not planning to bring the Cinemax content into the [HBO Max] overall,” said Quigley. “I think it still serves an important value for its customers in terms of its movie offerings,” he said according to a report from The Wrap.
While AT&T says they don’t plan to shut down the network there is growing concern that it will soon fade away. The question now is why keep Cinemax with HBO Max offering many of their movies and TV shows.
Keep an eye on Cinemax as one of the most likely networks to shut down in 2020.
#2 Audience Network
AT&T recently announced that they would be turning the Audience Network into a promotional tool for HBO Max. This means all the content made for Audience Network will soon stop being produced as the network moves to promote HBO Max 24/7.
This has raised the question of what will AT&T do with the Audience Network once HBO Max has launched and become established. Increasingly speculation is that AT&T will shut down the Audience Network completely at some point in the future when they no longer need it to promote HBO Max.
