HBO Sets an End Date For Their Amazon Prime Deal

Recently it was big news that Amazon was going to remove all HBO shows from Amazon Prime Video. Quickly Amazon came back and said that report was a mistake on their part.

Well it seems that we have now an timeline for the HBO and Amazon prime Video deal. HBO announced recently that it does not plan to extend their Amazon Prime deal. Currently that deal ends mid-2018 and it is expectorated that HBO will pull all of their shows from Amazon Prime at that time. According to reports the HBO deal will end sometime in May 2018.

This new info came during Time Warner’s 1st quarter earning call. During the call Time Warner CEO said “I don’t think you’ll see us extend or expand our library programming on Amazon beyond the end of next year,” Plepler said.

You will still be able to buy HBO shows on Amazon Video. This just means they will no longer be free with Amazon Prime. It is no surprise that HBO is leaving Amazon Prime. Amazon has downplayed the HBO content recently, and HBO has been pushing HBO live. The two services compete now in a way they didn’t 4 years ago. When the HBO and Amazon deal was first made HBO did not have its HBO NOW service or Amazon HBO Channel.

So if you want to catch up on great shows such as Sopranos or Big Love you better hurry because you have just a year to finish them. After that you will have to pay HBO or buy the seasons on DVD or on a streaming service.
