HBO is Very “Pleased” With HBO Now…

Recently the New York Post reported that HBO was struggling to attract subscribers. Now HBO is fighting back to defend its HBO Now streaming service.

HBO Now was first launched in 2015 and offers people the opportunity to subscribe to HBO without signing up for cable TV.

In a statement to FierceBroadcasting HBO said, ““On your OTT question, we couldn’t be more pleased or enthusiastic about what we are seeing this year. We have seen substantial growth with HBO Now. We expect that to continue, of course, across all of our digital distribution, including HBO Go,” HBO CEO Richard Plepler said.

It was recently reported that HBO Now has about a million subscribers similar in number to CBS All Access and Showtime Anytime.

However, even as HBO seems pleased with HBO Now its future is a bit of a mystery right now. HBO is owned by Time Warner (the TV company not the cable company), and it is being sold to AT&T. Many are wondering if HBO Now will be pushed aside in favor of pushing the new DirecTV Now service.

No official statement on the future of HBO Now has been made we do know HBO is working on a new app frontend and backend that is likely to point to the fact that HBO Now is not going anywhere.
