HBO Max is Closing in on 2 Million App Downloads

HBO Max is nearing the 2 million mark for new app downloads in the two weeks since its May 27th launch date. The reinvented app that merged HBO Now with the new streaming services has accumulated approximately 1.7 million downloads by new users in the first two weeks. The app drew in 337,000 mobile installs within the first 24 hours of launch.

May broke records for HBO as its best month for app downloads. According to SensorTower, the app climbed from just 250k downloads at the beginning of the year to 900k in April, no doubt due to the premiere of the final season for the cult-favorite Game of Thrones which debuted on HBO April 14, 2020. On the day after, HBO Now recorded its then-record number of 172,000 downloads in one day.

HBO Max also landed the number one spot on the Apple app store during its first week, according to a research company called App Annie.

With shows new originals like the scripted series Love Life, classic shows like Friends, and new movies including Ford vs Ferrari added regularly, HBO Max is an entertainment destination that’s shiny and new.
