The crackdown from HBO has started up again in force since HBO released HBO NOW, a streaming service that allows cord cutters to access HBO shows and even a live stream without the need to have Comcast or a different cable provider.
To slow down the rate of HBO pirating, HBO has started to issue thousands of letters as a first warning to further legal action.
Here is a segment of the letters that are being sent:
As the owner of the IP address, HBO requests that [ISP] immediately contact the subscriber who was assigned the IP address at the date and time below with the details of this notice, and take the proper steps to prevent further downloading or sharing of unauthorized content and additional infringement notices.
We also encourage you to inform the subscriber that HBO programming can easily be watched and streamed on many devices legally by adding HBO to the subscribers television package, the notification adds.
This is likely just the start of HBOs planned lawsuits, which have slowed down. Recently rumors are starting to fly that HBO plans a massive new round of lawsuits for pirates who fail to stop pirating after receiving these letters. These new lawsuits may be the largest in number of their kind everif they end up happening.
