Hallmark Media started 2024 with a round of layoffs and some of the company’s top brass have been ousted.

According to Deadline, executive cuts included Chief Marketing Officer Lara Richardson, Chief People Officer Pamela Wolfe, Executive Vice President of Research Strategy Robin Thomas, and Head of Distribution Judi Lopez.

“Hallmark Media organizational changes were announced internally today representing a new, more streamlined structure. As such, some executive leadership roles were eliminated, while new and expanded roles were created in order to forge new opportunities that will strengthen our focus on our core, and build new capabilities for our consumers and viewers,” a Hallmark spokesperson told Deadline.

The spokesperson went on to say that the company “remains committed to creating compelling content,” and that the Hallmark Channel ended 2023 as the “#1 most-viewed cable entertainment network among key demos, demonstrating a clear pathway for continued success.”

This comes as the media industry has been struggling to find its financial footing after viewership booms during the pandemic in 2020.

While cord cutting hit the cable TV industry hard, streamers are also scrambling to maintain — or achieve — profitability while viewers cut back on services to save money. In addition, a weak ad market and less news coverage on social media has made the media business a tough place to remain employed.

Hallmark wasn’t immediately available for comment.
