How to Watch the College Football Playoffs Without Paying for Cable TV

The college football playoffs are here again and start on December 31, 2016; however, if you don’t have cable you may be wondering how to watch them because they are once again on ESPN.

So here is our guide to watching the college football playoffs without paying for cable TV.

The Cheapest Way

Sling TV

If you want the least expensive way to watch the college football playoffs check out Sling TV. For just $20 a month you can watch ESPN and ESPN 2 along with 20 other channels. There is no contract so you can cancel at any time. Not only is it the least expensive way, but Sling TV is available on a wide range of devices. Just be aware that you are limited to one stream per account for ESPN. For an extra $5 you can get ESPNU, ESPN News, and the SEC Network to help catch all the games this bowl season.

Sling TV does have a new DVR but it is currently in a closed beta. If you want to watch a replay just use your Sling TV login to access WatchESPN. There you can watch a full replay of the games anytime.

Options With a Full DVR

PlayStation Vue

If you want to pause or rewind the game for an instant replay the PlayStation Vue is what you want. Starting at $30 a month ($40 a month in some markets) you can get ESPN 1 and ESPN2 and have access to a DVR.

Other Options

DIRECTV NOW

If you want a ton of channels for a low price DIRECTV NOW has a $35 a month deal for 100 channels. (Note this deal has now ended.) This is a short-lived deal but is one more option to watch bowl season and the college football playoffs.
