Google’s Chromecast Killer Could Cost a Lot More

If you’re a Google TV enthusiast, get ready for a new 4K streaming option! Google is reportedly replacing its popular Chromecast 4K with a new streaming device called the Google TV Streamer.

According to 9to5Google, Google will unveil the Streamer at its August event. This new set-top box will become the flagship Google TV device, offering a powerful alternative to the well-loved Chromecast.

Now we are learning a little about the price. According to a report from Dealabs, the streaming player will cost €119.99 or roughly $129.99 USD. That would make it more than double the $49.99 price of the current 4K streaming player, although Google often prices things higher in Europe.

While the Chromecast’s dongle design has been popular, the Google TV Streamer will adopt a more traditional set-top box format. This move comes after the success of Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro, demonstrating consumer demand for affordable yet powerful 4K streaming options. You can find photos of the new streaming player on 9to5Google’s website HERE.

This price point may be a hard sell with the Walmart Onn Google TV Pro device priced at $49.99.

Though the exact specifications remain unknown, images of the Streamer have surfaced online. The device is expected to feature a slightly updated remote and deliver top-notch streaming capabilities.

Google’s Chromecast has long been the go-to for many streamers, but the Google TV Streamer aims to take its place as the ultimate streaming companion. Look for an official announcement in August, with the device expected to launch sometime in 2024.
