Google TV Will Now Reportedly Let You Send Phone Calls to Your TV

A new “call notifications” feature is rolling out to users in Google TV’s latest update.

Google confirmed to Cord Cutters News that call notifications for Google Meet on Google TV and Android TV OS began rolling out at the end of 2023.

This comes after Google announced in November that it would be redesigning Google TV in early 2024.

In the device update, Google Meet can trigger a “call notifications” options which will let you turn the new feature on or off in the Settings app, according to 9to5Google, who was able to active “call notifications” on Chromecast with Google TV 4K and Hisense TV with Google TV.

Here’s how Google TV explains the feature in the Settings app, according to the report:

When enabled, you can receive calls from supported apps on this device. To adjust preferences for call notifications for the individual apps, please refer to the settings in the respective apps. Call notifications only show while you are in your personal user profile on this TV. You can adjust this setting in other profiles to also receive calls when those profiles are active.

While the feature first appeared in June on the Android TV OS 14 beta, it only went live recently. 9to5Google also noted that when trying to make a call with Meet, Chromecast didn’t show signs of an incoming call, even though the permissions were enabled. It’s likely this will change and the rollout continues.
