Google Play Is Offering FREE 4K Upgrades for Previously Purchased Movies

Family Enjoying Movie Night At Home TogetherDid you buy a movie in SD or HD from Google Play? It is possible you can now get a 4K version of that movie for free according to a report from 9to5 Google.

Back in 2016, the Google Play Store started to offer 4K UHD movies on devices like the Nvidia Shield. Yesterday, Google started upgrading many of their movies to 4K. If your device or TV does not support 4K you will still get an HD version. Now though if your TV and your streaming device supports 4K you will have the option to watch many of your movies in 4K.

Google also cut the price of 4K movies to be in line with HD pricing on many titles. Not all movies are supported because these upgrades are dependent on studios making higher resolutions of movies available.

If you have the latest version of the Google Play app you should now be notified if any of your previously purchased movies are available in 4K on Google Play. If you want to find out if your device supports 4K streaming, you can find a full list of supported devices HERE.
