Google Just Got FCC Approval For a New Android TV 4K Dongle

Well, it looks like Google will be taking a step back from the Chromecast to once again focus on Android TV. This time in the form of a dongle very similar in size and form to the 2nd gen Chromecast but running Android TV. (Note Android TV comes with Google Chromecast built in.)

This week ausdroid.net spotted an FCC filing for approval of an Android TV dongle from Google. From the looks of it, Google wants to take on the Roku Stick and Fire TV stick with a cheaper smaller version of their Android TV devices.

Details are still thin but the device does have 4K support and will likely come with a remote something the Chromecast currently does not offer according to the application. No price points or release dates have been announced at this time.

With FCC approval it is very possible this device could be announced as soon as late spring or early summer 2018. Yet it is just as possible that Google may sit on it until fall 2018 for a big Christmas push.
