Google will join Adobe, Amazon Web Services, Arris, Bamtech Media, Beamr, Charter Communications, CenturyLink, Comcast, Conviva, Liberty Global, NBCU, NeuLion, Sky, Verizon, Viacom and Nokia, and more.
“A lot has happened in the four years since the Alliance was founded. New industry technologies have been introduced and adopted, new Alliance members have joined our ranks such as AWS and Google and the consumer demand for and consumption of streaming video continues to soar,” said Jason Thibeault, Executive Director of the Streaming Video Alliance. “As we kick off our fourth annual member meeting, I’m inspired by our collective progress to date and look forward to our members’ continued contributions to the streaming video industry.”
Both YouTube and YouTube TV will now help promote the new royalty-free next-gen codec to help standardize video apps and services.

The Streaming Video Alliance was formed to address the challenges facing the industry in delivering a consistent streaming video experience. Representing companies from throughout the online video ecosystem (content owners, infrastructure operators, service providers, and technology providers), we promote collaboration on documentation and proof-of-concepts that addresses those challenges. Focusing on best practices, specifications, and requirements, our member companies work together through a number of different Working Groups to tackle fundamental issues across a broad range of topics.
