One of the main complaints about Android TV has been the fact that some low-end devices have dramatically lower performance than a higher end model. It now looks like Google wants to make sure that your experience on the hardware side lives up to the Android TV name.
Shalini Govil-Pai made it clear that Google is not planning on abandoning the lower end market, but wants to set standards that Android TV manufacturers have to live up to when it comes to the end user’s experience.
It was also revealed that Google has created a team with the goal of bringing new apps to Android TV. According to Shalini Govil-Pai, Android TV now has the critical mass to attract app makers that in the past skipped over the platform due to a small user base. This new team will work hard to bring in new and popular apps to Android TV.
Exactly when these new standards will take effect is unknown, but Google already has a certification process for developers. This is now being expanded to include the hardware side as well.
