Most of the new Android TV features have come from Nvidia and other box makers, with Nvidia making its own improvements and deals to bring apps such as Amazon Video to Android TV at least on its own players. Over the last few years Google has focused more on Chromecast than Android TV.
Now it seems that will all be changing on May 17 at 7 p.m. Eastern. (We believe it is Eastern but are trying to confirm it.) Google will be giving a special presentation to look at what is new for Android TV at its Google I/O event.
According to the events description Developers will learn whats new with Android TV, from recent system enhancements that help users quickly access relevant content, to an overview of new APIs for developers to build apps for Android TV. This session will cover new APIs, features and also upcoming platform enhancements.
For now what these new features, APIs, and platform enhancements are is unknown, but the fact that Google is giving attention to Android TV is good news for the millions of Android TV owners.
