Google Fiber, a high-speed broadband internet service, has added a symmetrical 8 Gbps option to its network in West Des Moines, IA. The network now offers four speed options, including 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, and 5 Gbps, telecompetitor reports.

The new 8 Gbps service is currently only in West Des Moines, IA and will cost $150 a month. For that price you also get a Wi-Fi 6 router and one or two mesh extenders. Subscribers also 1 terabyte of cloud storage, free installation, no anddata caps.

Google Fiber is a high-speed broadband internet service that uses fiber optic cable, and Google Fiber Webpass wireless millimeter wave technology on select multi-family buildings, to deliver fast internet right to your home or business. It’s recently come back to life, last month it agreed to build fiber networks in both Council Bluffs, IA and Huntersville, NC. Service for Council Bluffs is set to be available next year, there is no report for Huntersville.

Last year, Google Fiber said it would begin to offer 5 Gbps and 8 Gbps services in early 2023. Google announced that Utah, Kansas City, and Des Moines would be early test sites.

Google also plans to offer 10 Gig Fiber jack, as it tries to compete with Comcast and others who are launching their own 10 Gig internet services.
