Google Fiber Internet Now Offers 5 Gig Speeds in Select Areas

Are you looking for a crazy fast internet service? Google Fiber may be that option for you as Google has launched five gig speeds both down and up.

This launch of 5 gig speeds is only in four cities at first, according to a report from Engadget. The cities at launch include Kansas City and West Des Moines. The cost is not cheap, though, as you will need to pay $125 a month, but it comes with professional installation and a WiFi 6 router along with two mesh network extenders for crazy fast home internet.

Recently Comcast announced plans to offer ten gig home internet later this year. As home Internet providers rush to get their next-gen networks online, look for them to be expensive at the start and likely come down in price as competition grows.

Five gigs and ten gigs home internet is not something you can likely take full advantage of now at home. Though for, businesses, especially large hotels, stadiums, and more they will greatly benefit from the improved speeds.

The move to next-gen home internet with crazy fast speeds is more about handling the increased demand from more devices on the network. Comcast reports that almost 1 billion devices are now connected to the Comcast network. As everything from your coffeemaker to your hairdryer is connected to the internet, bandwidth will increasingly become important.
